Fred Bixby on Water Wagon   Water Symposium - Historical Society of Long Beach - at Rancho Los Alamitos

Part of a year-long focus on water by the Long Beach Historical Society entitled "Water Changes Everything." A panel discussion follwed by a film debut about the past, present and future of water in Long Beach. Moderator will be Joe VanderHorst, HSLB Board member and retired senior administrator of the Metropolitan Water District. Attendees are encouraged to carpool or take ride-share transportation (Uber or LYFT). Reserve at programs@hslb.org.

The Rancho's nationally recognized gardens were developed early in the 20th century under the guidance of owner Florence Green Bixby with the help of outstanding landscape architects and plantsmen of the era. Your guide will be the Rancho's Historic Garden Associate, Janet Brown Becker. Ms. Becker has a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in California garden design and history from UC Berkeley. She studied under the Rancho’s preeminent landscape architectural consultants, Russell Beatty and David Streatfield.

Note that each monthly tour covers basically the same information – but the seasonal features of the gardens will vary month to month. Reservations will open February 14, 2020.

April 2020
