Hydrangea   Curated Tour of Florence Bixby’s Gardens

The Rancho's nationally recognized gardens were developed early in the 20th century under the guidance of owner Florence Green Bixby with the help of outstanding landscape architects and plantsmen of the era. Your guide will be the Rancho's Historic Garden Associate, Janet Brown Becker. Ms. Becker has a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture with an emphasis in California garden design and history from UC Berkeley. She studied under the Rancho’s preeminent landscape architectural consultants, Russell Beatty and David Streatfield. Ms. Becker oversees the historic interpretation, curatorial documentation and horticultural integrity of the Rancho’s gardens.

Note that each monthly tour covers the same basic information – but the seasonal features of the gardens will vary month to month. Reservations will open May 6, 2020.

Thanks to City of Long Beach Councilmembers Suzie Price (District 3) & Al Austin (District 8), for the first time ever, the Ranchos of Long Beach are hosting a joint summer concert series, with five free concerts throughout the summer. The series begins at Rancho Los Alamitos on Sunday, June 14. Pack a picnic for an evening with lively music and free self-paced tours of the ranch house until intermission.

Rounding up schoolkids and their families for a fun “crafternoon!” Create a craft project inspired by the Rancho’s barns and animals and explore California’s history of ranching right here in Long Beach. Reservations will open May 17, 2020.

The day before Father’s Day, come to the Rancho Museum Gift Shop for last-minute gifts for Dad. Enjoy tastings of a variety of California artisan foods: olive oils, vinegars, and tapenade by Sutter Buttes; signature handcrafted chocolates by John Kelly Chocolates; pickles, jams, and barbeque sauce by Chef Andrew Anderson of The Spicy Kitchen.

Suffragettes   Daughters of Long Beach Symposium

Join Long Beach Suffrage 100, the Historical Society of Long Beach, and Rancho Los Alamitos in marking the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects women’s right to vote. Presenters will celebrate women’s history in Long Beach, sharing artifacts and stories of extraordinary women from the Rancho and beyond. Reservations open on May 18, 2020.
